On this extraordinary traverse of Sicily by bike and bus, we explore the diversity of the largest Mediterranean island. Starting in Trapani we cycle along a ruggedly beautiful coastline, discovering traditional fishing ports, fascinating ancient ruins and inviting beaches. Further east, we strike inland and ride between beautiful Baroque towns, culminating our journey with a ride around the flanks of Mount Etna. As well as the wealth of historical and cultural sights, Sicily impresses with picturesque landscapes and some of Italy’s finest food and wine.
This part of Italy is one of the finest in the country for combining great scenery, undemanding cycling through the rolling hills and wonderful small historic towns such as Martina Franca, Ostuni or Lecce. The warm hospitality of the locals, great food and wine and stunning coastlines are added features for a great cycling experience.
Sardinia is still the “uncut” diamond among the Mediterranean islands. Very sparsely populated, it features some breathtaking scenery with low impact car traffic, ideal for cycling on the island’s back-roads . Bosa and Alghero are beautiful historic towns, the Sardi people are overwhelmingly hospitable and their food delicious + very authentic. Cycling on Sardinia is perfect for combining these experiences with stops on some of the many great beaches with turquoise waters unique to this part of the Mediterranean.
