Arrival in Ouarzazate, transfer to hotel.
Drive over the Tizi’n Tinififft mountain pass (1,660m) into the lunar landscape of the Anti-Atlas. and continue down into the Draa Valley the largest date palm oasis in Morocco. We begin cycling in the small town of Agdz and head south through the oasis. Overnight stop in Tazzarine. (50km bike)
We start off cycling from the hotel towards Rissani. Today everybody can do as many km as they want. Picnic underneath palm trees. Later we drive the last km through the desert until reaching Rissani, our night stop for today. (40-80km bike)
Rissani is set at the end of the vegetation belt before the sea of dunes begins. You might want to see an authentic ksar (fortified village) and even have lunch in a family house. Erg Chebbi, the Sahara sand dunes are very close, and a worthwhile excursion.
We cycle through authentic desert and berber villages. Alongside the road you see the “Fogaras” – ancient, subterranean irrigation systems. After lunch, we drive to Todra Gorge sometimes described as Morocco’s Grand Canyon. After a stroll we finish our day in Tinerhir. (50km bike)
We transfer by bus up into the High Atlas passing the rose valley, stopping for a coffee at the Ksar in Ouarzazate. At the mountain pass Tizi n’Fedrhate (2.150m) we start cycling down into the northern foothills of the Atlas Mountains, passing smaller berber hamlets. We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon. In the morning we explore the Medina (old town) of Marrakech, the celebrated Djemme-el-Fna square, with its story-tellers, snake-charmers, letter writers, water-sellers and jugglers, the souks (markets) and the Baadi Palace. The afternoon is free, e.g. with a chance to relax at a Hammam (Bath house).
The tour ends in Marrakech this morning after breakfast.
