Flight to Bilbao and approx. 2 hour drive to Comillas. Depending on the arrival time, we stop for a little stroll through medieval Santillana.
We start the tour with a walk It goes into the hinterland of the Cantabrian Coast Mountains, in the Saja-Besaya Natural Park. The destination of our hike is Bárcena Mayor, one of the most beautiful mountain villages in northern Spain (time: 2 1/2 hours, + 150 m, – 400 m).
Today we undertake a coastal hike with a fantastic destination: the fishing village of San Vicente de la Barquera. It is as if painted on an island in a Ría, a fjord-like arm of the sea. The peaks of the Picos de Europa glisten in the background, while wonderful sandy beaches lie towards the sea (time: 5 hours, +/- 150 m).
We drive towards the peaks of the Picos de Europa National Park. On the way we stop in the medieval mountain village of Potes with an almost Mediterranean climate. A short hike takes us to the foothills of the Picos (GZ: 2 hours, +/- 350 m). Then we reach Espinama.
The Fuente Dé cable car takes us up to 1,850 m. We enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the national park: rocky peaks, deep gorges, large glacial lakes, lush forests. We hike below the summit and, after a lunch break, descend into the valley (time: 5 hours, + 100 m, – 850 m, 2 boots; optional descent by cable car).
In the morning we go by jeep to Caín (approx. 2 hours). An absolute must: the “Divine Gorge” of the Río Cares (time: 4 hours + 150 m, – 600 m, 2 boots). Then transfer to Llanes in Asturias. There are many beautiful beaches that make the place a popular destination.
