Arrive to Tenerife and transfer to hotel in El Medano on the south coast.
Depending on the ferry schedule we might go for a walk to Montaña Roja with good views across Tenerife’s south coast and towards Gomera. Later transfer to Los Christianos and ferry crossing to La Palma. Short transfer to our hotel base in Los Llanos on the sunny side of the island.
We drive to Los Canarios in the south of the island. First we visit the museum of San Antonio volcano before starting the walk, taking us mainly downhill through the lunar landscape of one of the Canaries’ more recent eruptions, dating back to the 1970s. After reaching Teneguia we descend to Fuencaliente lighthouse before the driving back to our hotel. (4 hrs walking)
A short taxi drive takes us to La Cumbrecita, great panoramic location above the Caldera de Taburiente. After exploring the area on foot we climb up to Bico Bejenado (1.854m), the best view point overlooking the Caldera and the entire south of La Palma. Later transfer back to our hotel. (5 hrs walking)
Usually very early in the morning we take the ferry to Gomera. After dropping off luggage in our hotel in San Sebastian we drive to the Degollada de Peraza and start our shorter walk via the spectacular Roque Agando down to La Laja village – tucked away into a lush gorge with semitropical vegetation. Later short transfer back to hotel. (3 hrs)
We drive to Contadero and first walk up to the Garajonay peak, the highest point on the island (1.484m). After, we continue the walk through the magical Laurisilva forest, the only remaining survivor of prehistoric subtropical vegetation on the Canaries. Once reaching El Cedro we get picked up and transfer back to our hotel in San Sebastian. (4 ½ hrs walking)
Today is a free day for relaxing or visiting the sunny Valle Gran Rey or an optional walk, e.g. from Hermigua to La Caleta.
In the morning we take the ferry to Tenerife and drive straight up to the Cañadas de Teide to explore the unique world of ancient lava fields at the bottom of Spain’s highest peak (3.718m). Either go on an easy walk to Roques Garcia or walk up to Guajara peak to get the best views of Teide. Alternatively take the cable car for the Teide up to above 3.500m. Overnight in El Medano. (2-5 hrs walking)
