Arrival in Madrid and meeting at our hotel in the town centre.
In the morning we go for an orientation tour on foot through the heart of Madrid; the afternoon is free for you to explore Madrid on your own, e.g. paying a visit to the stunning Prado or Reina Sofia museums.
In the morning we will walk along the Manzanares canyon which is located high up in the La Pedriza area in the Sierras of Madrid. Later we continue driving to Segovia for our overnight stop. In the afternoon there will be time to explore the old town with its famous Roman aqueduct and the Alcazar. (3 hrs walking)
We drive to the spectacular canyon lands of the river Duratón. A scenic walk takes us along the river before reaching the medieval town of Sepulveda for our lunch stop. Afterwards, we drive to Peñafiel – right in the heart of Ribera de Duero’s wine region. In the afternoon there’s a wine tasting included in one of Spain’s most innovative bodegas. (3 hrs walking)
Free day in lovely Peñafiel with time to stroll through the medieval town centre, walk up to the castle for a visit of the wine museum or for visiting another bodega in the area.
In the morning we drive to El Toro, another top notch wine producing region on the river Duero. We stop for wine tasting in beautiful Toro village before continuing to Zamora with time for lunch and a stroll through this surprising medieval gemstone. In the afternoon we drive to our base for the next three days – a medieval hilltop village overlooking the river Duero on the Portuguese border and right in heart of Arribes National Park.
In the morning we have a walk through the surrounding area allowing great views across the river Duero. In the afternoon there will be free time to relax before we go for some wine tasting in a local bodega – dug into one of the aproximately 900 granite bodega-caves dating back to ancient times when wine was produced on a large scale in this area. (3 hrs walking)
In the morning we drive towards Miranda do Douro in Portugal. After a walk in the surrounding area and a visit of this town with a distinct Portuguese feel we take a boat to spend some time on the river, seeing the spectacular canyons from inside. (4 hrs walking)
