About this tour

Morocco and its light and colours is an irresistible temptation for a photographer. We offer a cultural journey diving deep into life in the country’s South, combined with a photographic exploration where a professional photographer helps you to get the most out of your camera, covering diverse situations and themes such as architecture, light and shadow, identifying an interesting frame and focus, night photography and last but not least – respectfully approaching social situations with the camera. This trip is for anyone interested in getting more out of your camera when travelling.

Day 1: Salam aleikum Morocco
Arriving in Marrakech and transferring to the Riad.
Day 2: Marrakesh - Introduction
We start the day with a walk through the Medina and visit the fascinating Maison de la Photographie and the Medersa. In the afternoon we spend more time in the Medina and bazaars and start exploring local life with the camera.
Day 3: The Majorelle Garden and night photography
In the morning we visit the Majorelle Garden – a feast of colours!. Here we take our time and can dive deeper into getting results in macro photography. In the evening we concentrate on night photography in the lively atmosphere of the square Jemaa el-Fna.
Day 4: World of Berbers in the High Atlas
We drive to the Ourika Valley in the High Atlas foothills south of Marrakech. Here we spend the day in an authentic berber village, learn more about portrait photography and see the beautiful local Eco musee berbere plus have lunch with a family inside a village home.
Day 5: Social studies in the Palmeraie
Afternoon visit of the Palmeraie, the palm tree grove in the outskirts of Marrakesh . We’ll work on adopting a sensitive photographic approach to social realities and contrasts between the worlds of the poor and rich living in this area.
Day 6: Drive to Essauoira
On our way to the seaside town of Essaouira, we will stop at an Argan cooperative. This is a social project for excluded women to give them a chance to work. We document the Argan oil and cosmetic production as well as the social background of the workers.
Day 7: Free day in Essaouira
Free day for exploring at your own pace what Essaouira has to offer. Later we meet up for more theory on particular subjects around photography and the use of your camera.
Day 8: High Atlas and Ait Ben Haddou
Today we cross the High Atlas passing its 2.200m high mountain pass Tizi n´Tichka. At midday we will arrive at the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou which is set in a picturesque landscape. We use the wonderful afternoon light for our session “landscape, light and moods”.

Day 9: Day tour into the Draa Valley
Our photographic excursion takes us to several Kasbahs in the Draa valley. Near Ouarzazate we will visit the biggest film studios in Africa where films such as The last Temptation of Christ, Gladiator or The Mummy were shot.

Day 10: Back to Marrakesh
We will have an early start to drive back to Marrakesh. Our route passes through the impressive mountain scenery of the High Atlas and the Ounila Valley dotted with ancient berber villages and fascinating rock formations. In the afternoon there is time to individually reflect on your work together with the photographer.

Day 11: Bslamah! Goodbye Marocco
Transfer to the airport.
